Fresno Unified Nutrition Center
The Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) Nutrition Center prepares and packages food for students attending schools in the Fresno area. The FUSD Nutrition Center serves 105 schools with over 80,000 meals a day, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks, which produces over 16 million meals per year. One of the focuses of this facility is to provide students nutritionally sound meals that will help enhance their ability to learn. The director of the Nutrition Center and member of the Fresno Farmer System Alliance, Jose Alvarado, collaborates with the Fresno Farm to School program to increase healthy and nutritious food options for students. The Fresno Farm to School program allows farmers to sell directly to local school districts in Fresno County in order to provide the students with healthier and fresher choices. These efforts are creating new relationships and innovative thinking about food and farming in the largest food producing region of the United States. Please visit Fresno Unified School District Food Service website for further information: http://www.fresnounified.org/dept/operations/food/default.aspx.
